Is It Worth Replacing A MacBook Screen?

Is It Worth Replacing A MacBook Screen?

When you accidentally drop your MacBook Pro, your screen is usually the first thing to break. As with most modern devices, it is almost inevitable considering we spend an average of 3 hours and 37 minutes a day online, a figure set to rise according to Ofcom.

However, when it comes to a MacBook Pro screen replacement, it is worth asking whether you should take this route or buy a new model. MacBook Pro screens can start to fail from water damage, cracks, or simply fall victim to time, which is why in this piece, we will be exploring the costs involved, if MacBook screens can be replaced, and how they can be fixed.

Can the MacBook Pro screen be replaced?

The first and most important question to ask is, can a MacBook Pro screen be replaced? Thankfully, the answer is yes. Whether you have cracked your screen, caused water damage, or it just isn’t working as it used to, there are options available.

Whenever there is an issue with your device, you should first check if it has a warranty and what the terms and conditions are. Apple does offer repairs for their devices, and there is no charge provided the issue is covered under your warranty, AppleCare+ or under consumer law.

If the issues with your MacBook Pro screen are not covered, Apple is still happy to carry out repairs, but usually for a significant out-of-warranty fee. You may also have to part with your device for an unknown period of time, depending on the time taken for the MacBook Pro to be received, repaired, and delivered back to you.

The likelihood is that you wouldn’t know the cost of out-of-warranty repairs with Apple until it has been assessed and evaluated by their team, at which point you will definitely want your device fixed and be more pressured to be locked in at a high price.

There are, however, other options that are more budget-friendly and can have a much faster turnaround than the manufacturer. Independent device repair centres such as Im Fixed offer a range of same-day repair services, and replacing a MacBook Pro screen is a relatively quick and easy procedure for our skilled team.

Once the new screen is securely in place and has been thoroughly tested by our team, they will also work on carrying out a comprehensive diagnostic test to ensure your device is functioning as it should and that there are no other issues besides the screen.

It is a process that can take anywhere between two and five hours in total, and our Im Fixed team are happy to travel to your work, home or another site to carry out on-location repairs. Alternatively, if you are local to our Bolton-based repair shop, you can drop off your MacBook Pro with our team and return later that same day.

Should I Get a MacBook Screen Repair Service?
There is no direct answer to the questions. In some cases, you should get the screen repair services, but sometimes, it is not worth it. First, you need to know the resale value of your MacBook. Obviously, you will never want to spend on your MacBook more than its current resale value.
If your MacBook is too old, and you know that you will face more problems in the foreseeable future, it is better to buy a new MacBook instead of spending money on the repair. It is because there is expected life of the components. If you spend money on the screen repair, you might have to spend more money on the battery, hard drive, and other components.
Therefore, your investment won’t be worth it. If your MacBook is new or not very old, you can get the screen repaired. You can spend some money on it because the other components are expected to work for a long time, and you will not have to spend often on the repairs. Moreover, the cost of repair also depends on the severity of the damage. If there is minimal screen damage, the price could be less. There are also other issues related to the MacBook screen, and these cost lower than the screen replacement.
Even if your MacBook is new and you have decided to get the screen repaired, you need to keep a few things in mind. You need to know how you can get your screen repaired. Otherwise, it could be a loss for you.

Do Not Look for “MacBook Repair Near Me”
There are local MacBook repair service providers everywhere. You can easily find a few shops near your area, but if there are not any, you can search for “MacBook repair near me” on Google. You will get a list of nearby shops and service providers. These service providers can repair your MacBook at a very reasonable cost, but you cannot trust their service.
Firstly, they do not have professionals for the job, and they can even make the situation worse. Secondly, they usually use fake and counterfeit parts to earn more profit. If the screen is fake, there is no guarantee of its life. It can even stop working the next day or the next month. Most importantly, you cannot trust any person when it comes to MacBooks. They might change some original working parts or sneak into your data. Thus, it is better to avoid nearby places if you want to stay away from various scams.
We offer MacBook screen repair at a reasonable cost. Our technicians are highly skilled and professionally trained. They can provide a reasonable quote for the MacBook screen repair if you visit any of our stores. We also have on-site pickup and return services to make the process easier for our customers. We use original and authentic third-party parts for the repair. The parts used are of optimal quality. The best part is that we also offer a 90-180 days workmanship guarantee in which we repair the device again and solve the issue if it still exists.
Therefore, customers can get MacBook screen repair and other services without any worries. We charge a reasonable amount for the MacBook screen repair. It is much less than the amount you pay at Apple stores. It makes your investment worth it because it is a fraction of the price that you pay. Secondly, we offer an extended warranty. It will cover your MacBook, smartphones, tablets, cameras, and other devices. It also includes 1-time cracked screen replacement and theft & floor replacement. If your MacBook’s warranty has expired, you can buy our extended warranty to cover your products and save money on repairs.

How to Make MacBook Screen Repair Worth It?

How much does it cost to replace a MacBook Pro screen?

The cost of replacing a MacBook Pro screen depends not only on the company you choose to perform the repair, but also on the type of damage and the type of display your device has. Most MacBook Pros now have a retina display screen, although older models may differ. The retina screen is relatively common now, but the display itself is very unique and, as a result, can be more expensive to service.

While other large manufacturers, such as HP, Dell, and Lenovo, will use the same display across all their models and across many years, Apple has a different approach. Unfortunately, Apple chooses to have one very specific display for one particular model, colour, size, and year, making repairs generally more expensive.

As such, it is difficult to give a specific price for a MacBook Pro screen replacement unless you are protected under an AppleCare+ warranty. In most cases, you will have to go in-store to get a more accurate price, but according to their website, if you are covered, you would expect to pay anywhere between £79 and £229, but this can vary.

The cost of getting a Macbook Pro screen replacement can be costly, but if you would rather skip a trip to the Apple store, you can get in touch with our Imfixed team. Our highly skilled team can replace your MacBook Pro screen for as little as £220 (subject to the model) with a 12-month guarantee on all work carried out.

All of our MacBook and Macbook Pro screen replacement prices can be found by simply selecting your model on our website, selecting the repair required from the list of faults and adding it to your basket. From there, you will be able to see the repair cost plus any extra delivery or postal fees, or call us for our service fees.

If you would like to know more about the cost involved in replacing a Macbook Pro screen, feel free to get in touch with our team. We understand how important it is to have your MacBook in working order without feeling like you may be better off just buying a brand new model. At Imfixed, we believe in quality repairs for fair prices, and screen repairs should be relative to the cost of the actual device.

As such, we pride ourselves on providing each customer with the best service at the best price, which is why we guarantee a Price Match Promise. How can I fix my MacBook screen?

Whilst we would always recommend choosing a reputable screen repair service when it comes to fixing your MacBook Pro screen, there are ways that you can replace it yourself. DIY at-home fixes can be complicated, time-consuming, and often risk making the issues with your device worse. But, you can buy replacement parts online that will allow you to attempt to replace the faulty screen.

If you are able to get a home replacement kit, the following streamlined steps will help you replace your screen:

  • Start by removing the lower case of your MacBook Pro.
  • You will then want to disconnect the battery carefully and bend the connector back to avoid accidentally reconnecting during your screen replacement.
  • Carefully remove the rubber fan bumper from the edge of the heat sink.
  • Gently pry up each of the three antenna cables near their connectors to disconnect them from the AirPort board.
  • You need to disconnect the iSight camera cable connector by walking it out of its socket on the logic board.
  • Gently peel the iSight camera cable up off the fan housing.
  • Carefully flip the display cable connector open and pull it straight out of its socket.
  • Remove the rubber hinge covers from the display hinges on the left and right.
  • The two T5 Torx screws that secure the aluminium hinge brackets should be removed.
  • The hinge brackets can be removed from the left and right using a pair of tweezers.
  • The four outer T8 Torx screws securing the display to the upper portion of the case should then be removed.
  • Hold onto the upper case and rotate it clockwise towards the top of the display. This will allow the display brackets to clear the top edge of the case.
  • Gently rotate the display away from the upper portion of the case.
  • You will now be able to pull the display entirely away from the upper case, but be mindful of any brackets or cables that could be caught during this process.

Once you have completed these steps, your MacBook Pro screen replacement will be ready to be attached. This can be done by following these instructions in reverse order.

This process may seem simple, but without the proper skills, knowledge, or experience in repairs, you may accidentally cause more damage to your device. Plus, by carrying out the work yourself, you may be unable to get to the root of the problem, which might not be the screen.

By putting your MacBook Pro in the hands of a professional, you can rest easy in the knowledge that your device will be returned to you looking great and working as it should, with a guarantee on all work. It is never worth a botched DIY job on a device that can be incredibly costly to replace.

Is it worth replacing a Macbook screen?

So, is it worth replacing a Macbook screen? The answer depends on the model and the level of damage to your device. As mentioned, the retina display that most modern MacBooks now have is entirely unique and can be pretty expensive to replace. Depending on the MacBook Pro model you own, in some cases, it may be more cost-effective in the long term to simply buy a brand new device. The cost of some Macbook Pros is similar to the price of a screen repair, so our team would definitely advise you on the most financially viable option.

That being said, there are many MacBook Pro models that are much more expensive, and so having your screen repaired is the better financial option. Screen repairs can save you a lot of money, and if you choose to have your repairs carried out by our Imfixed team, you can rest assured that it will receive a full diagnostic test to ensure the long-term health of the device.
