Why Won’t My iPhone Stay Charged

Why Won’t My iPhone Stay Charged

Been using your phone and thinking, “why won’t my iPhone stay charged”? There are numerous possibilities for this, and some of them are a quick and easy fix, with repairs being one of the options.

If you have been struggling with your iPhone battery dying quickly, we will go through everything you need to know about in this article. We also cover issues like iPhones that won’t connect to Wi-Fi or read SIM cards, issues with sound quality on calls, why people can’t hear you through your phone, and even why your iPhone won’t vibrate

For now, let’s focus on why your iPhone won’t stay charged – and see what we can do about it.

How to Check iPhone Battery Health

The first thing you are going to want to do is check the status of your battery’s health on your iPhone. You can do this by going to Settings → Battery → Health & Charging.

Here, information about the phone’s battery will let you know what the situation is. There will be details about the peak performance, battery capacity, and whether the batter should be serviced or not. Based on the information, you should be able to see if your battery’s hold and capacity is worse than it used to be, and if you should consider getting a new one.

Batteries won’t last forever, so this is bound to happen. You can keep using your device until you feel like it’s time for a new battery if you go through the below steps and can’t resolve the issue.

Why Won’t My iPhone Stay Charged?

Why Won’t My iPhone Stay Charged

If you aren’t having an issue with an iPhone that won’t charge, then you’re probably having issues with your battery draining too fast. These are common issues, and lucky there are fixes for just about everything in the world of tech.

The Brightness is Too High

Having your device’s brightness on high is probably the number one cause for iPhone batteries (or any other device, really) to drain quickly. More energy is needed to maintain a very bright screen, so your battery will naturally go down fast, and you will be on the dreaded 20% in no time.

To resolve this issue, simply turn the brightness of your screen down from the notification bar, or in settings. You can either manually adjust the brightness as you see fit, or you can toggle on “Auto-Brightness”, which will adjust the brightness for you based on your environment.

You Have the Auto-Fetching Feature On

Unless you really need it, the auto-fetching feature is not always a necessary one to have on. You can check your emails when you want to, rather than getting notifications of new emails that will drain your battery.

By turning off auto-fetching, you can make your battery last longer than you even though possible. So, if a dying battery is something that you have struggled with a lot, consider making this change, and see how it affects your device’s battery.

You can turn this off by going to Settings → Mail, Contacts, Calendars → Fetch New Data → toggle off “Push”. Go to any account under “Fetch New Data” → Manually

Power-Draining Apps Running in the Background

We all have apps that we love and use, then we all have those apps that are sitting there, taking up space and being useless. When your battery drains quickly, you can always assume that the apps are playing at least some role in this, and it’s up to you to figure out which apps are eating battery.

To do this, you can go to Settings → Battery and find the power-consuming apps on the list. You can look through just the last 24 hours or the last week to determine which apps are causing the issue. If they are not important, then you can simply delete them.

Your iOS is not Up-to-Date

An outdated iOS can drain your battery like you wouldn’t believe. Usually an iPhone will update without an issue, but if you are having trouble, you can follow the steps we’ve outlined below.

You will need the latest version of iTunes on a Windows or Mac laptop/PC for this method.

Follow these steps:

  1. Connect your Windows/Mac device to the phone
  2. Do a force restart (steps outlined in an above section) to get your phone in Recovery Mode
  3. Don’t let go of the buttons until the phone screen has the Recovery mode screen (a charging cable with an arrow pointed at a laptop)
  4. Select ‘update’ when the option to restore or update on your computer shows up
  5. Confirm, then follow the instructions given to you (it can take up to 15 minutes, so have some patience)
  6. Your phone will restart on its own once you’re done

If this doesn’t work, you can use DFU Mode, but beware that this will restore iOS to a clean slate, so back your phone up first!

Improving Battery Health – What Else You Can Do?

If the above options don’t help your battery to last longer, then you will need to look into other methods. The most obvious option is to get a replacement battery, but there is something else that you can try, too.

Get a Battery Replacement

Ultimately, you might need to get a replacement battery. This is not unusual, as no battery is made to last forever, so don’t worry too much. If the Battery Health indicates that your iPhone’s battery is performing worse than before, or that it needs a service, then take your device to a trusted repair shop – like us.

Depending on the iPhone model, battery replacement costs will range from as little as £25 to around £45. Luckily, battery replacements are not nearly as costly as other repairs (like screens or cameras), so this is a small price to pay to make sure you can continue using your phone for years to come.

Restore Your iPhone to a Previous Backup

This might sound like an odd solution, but it can work. It’s common for an issue to come up in the data that causes the battery to drain so quickly. So, by restoring your device to a previous backup, you might be able to resolve the glitch and get everything working as it should be again.

You will lose at least some of the data on your phone if you choose to restore from backup, depending on when you last backed your phone up. However, this could be the solution you are looking for, so try restoring from backup by:

  1. Open the latest version of iTunes on a computer
  2. Connect your iPhone to it
  3. Sign into iTunes
  4. Right-click the device under ‘summary’ in iTunes and select ‘Restore Backup’
