Everything You Need to Know About the iPhone 16
Costing between £799 (128GB) to £1.099 (512GB), the iPhone 16 boasts of a lot of features that you are going to fall in love with. Below, we are going to cover everything you need to know about the iPhone 16, so you can decide if you should get it or not.
Does the iPhone 16 Have New and Unique Features?
The primary feature that sets the iPhone 16 apart from the rest is the new and improved vertical alignment for the rear cameras. This difference allows for spatial video capture, or immersive video. This means that you can capture and view 3D images within the Photos App using Apple Vision Pro.
Besides this difference, however, the iPhone 16 is very similar to the iPhone 15, and it has inherited the versatile Action Button and a new camera control button. Together, these three physical upgrades are a pleasure to the senses, but the most important features of this device are hidden beneath.
Specifically, the A18 chipset is a notable improvement from the iPhone 15’s A16 Bionic Chipset. Where Apple will usually use the same chipset for the new standard models, iPhone 16 (and 16 Plus) users get to enjoy this upgrade, which boasts of improved privacy. However, this new and improved chipset might not be as powerful as we hoped, according to early benchmarks – but it’s early days.
Camera Control
As we mentioned, the new camera control in the iPhone 16 is a feature that shouldn’t be overlooked. The new camera control found in the iPhone 16 is part of the Action Button on the device, and the combination makes for a whole new breed of iPhone – one that could make the 16 Pro be considered among the best phone cameras around.
The camera control button sits on the right side of the iPhone, just beneath the power button. It’s a physical button and doubles as a shutter release, but can be used as so much more. With one press, the camera app is initiated, and with another, you take a photo. To take a video, all you need to do is hold the button down – it’s an upgrade that no one won’t welcome.
This button is more than a button. Acting as a touch bar, it also supports different gesture controls and can be used to adjust light exposure, zoom in or out, and a plethora of other things – at the touch of a finger.
iPhone 16 Storage Capabilities
Storage is crucial with iPhones, and come October, having enough storage will be more important than ever before. With Apple Intelligence rolling out imminently for the iPhone 16, a minimum of 8GB of RAM will be required to power it.
As we saw in the above specs, however, this is not something that you even need to worry about, and there is plenty of storage space no matter which option you pick between 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB options.
With so much storage space just like the iPhone 15, you can enjoy everything you love and capture moments without fear or getting the dreaded “storage full” notification.
What Do We Know About Battery Life and Charging?
No one wants to run out of battery when they need it most, and with the iPhone 16, it sounds like this is less likely to happen than ever before. While we haven’t been told the exact size of the battery, Apple has promised a “big boost in battery life” – so we can expect it to outlive the iPhone 15’s 20 hours of video playback.
Like the iPhone 12 to 15 models, the iPhone 16 also supports wireless MagSafe charging. The big difference here, however, is that safe wireless charging is supported up to 25W – a huge jump up from the previous 15W limit. Not only that, but it also supports 45W wired charging. For those who aren’t aware, that’s more than a 50% faster charge compared to the iPhone 15, and a huge bonus for us all.
iPhone’s New Generation of Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence, or AI, has swept across the world in recent years more so than ever before. This means that with every new iPhone release, there are new and improved features to dive into and explore.
The iPhone 16 will boast of Siri powered by ChatGPT, as well as features like writing assistance, text summarisation, and generative photo creation. Together, these features will bring the iPhone 16 to the same level as the Samsung Galaxy S24 and Google Pixel 9, and Apple will not be behind in the AI game.
What Colours Are Available?
You can’t undermine the importance of colouring when it comes to iPhones, or any kind of smartphone. While the colour doesn’t impact the device’s functionality, it does play a key role in gathering attention – and the iPhone 16 does that effortlessly.
There are five colours available to suit anyone and everyone’s preferences, from the classic black, to more colourful options like ultramarine and teal. Take a book:
- Black
- White
- Teal
- Ultramarine
- Pink
For anyone curious, the iPhone 15’s launching colours were black, blue, green, pink, and yellow – so they’ve decided to add some great shades this year. You’re going to want a clear phone case for colours like these.
