Refurbished Samsung Galaxy A34
Design and screen
- Refined design similar to Galaxy S23
- Bright, colourful finishes
- 6.6-inch FHD+ 120Hz AMOLED display
The Samsung Galaxy A34 5G has the same design as the A33 until you turn the phone over, at which point it is more of a refinement than a reimagining of the inexpensive mid-ranger. Samsung has ditched the camera housing of its predecessor, instead opting for the same single line of cameras as the flagship S23 range. The design tweak does make the phone look more premium than it is, though picking it up and feeling the glasstic rear will remind you of the cheap price point.
Cameras
- Triple camera setup on rear
- 48MP main snapper has most of the new tech
- Very minimal camera changes elsewhere
Just like the Galaxy A33 from last year, the Galaxy A34 boasts a trio of cameras on the rear comprised of a main 48MP snapper, an 8MP ultra-wide and a 5MP macro camera. With enticing features like OIS - especially at this price point - and support for Night Mode, the main 48MP has received the most of Samsung's attention. However, I doubt the latter will be able to compete with Samsung's flagship lineup.
- MediaTek Dimensity 1080
- OneUI 5.1 based on Android 13
- 5,000mAh battery
The Galaxy A33 5G chose Samsung's in-house Exynos 1280 processor last year, but this year it has chosen a different route. But the Galaxy A34 has a MediaTek Dimensity 1080 chip instead of a Qualcomm one, which I had expected given Qualcomm and Samsung's close partnership on the S23 series. The company claims that the new chipset brings a 17% boost to CPU performance and 14% to GPU performance but I’ll have to wait until I get a sample to test and benchmark to confirm this. While moving between the home screen and app drawer felt rather quick, I did notice that it hung briefly when switching lenses in the Camera app. However, given the inexpensive £349 price tag, this is not surprising. The Galaxy A34 5G ships with Samsung's newest OneUI 5.1, which is based on Android 13, and it has some special features like the ability to apply specific Snapchat effects from within the built-in Camera app. With the Galaxy A34, Samsung has focused heavily on battery life by packing the same 5,000mAh battery found in the top-tier Galaxy S23 Ultra, which is bigger than the ordinary Galaxy S23 and the S23 Plus. The Samsung Galaxy A-series is a line of mid-range smartphones that offer many of the features found in Samsung's flagship phones at a more affordable price point. These phones typically have large, high-quality displays, powerful processors, and impressive camera systems, making them a great choice for anyone looking for a phone that can handle demanding apps and games, take great photos and videos, and provide all-day battery life. One of the standout features of the Samsung Galaxy A-series is its display. Many A-series phones feature large, high-resolution displays that offer excellent color accuracy and contrast. This makes them great for watching videos, browsing the web, and playing games. Some A-series phones also feature Samsung's Super AMOLED technology, which provides even better color accuracy and contrast, as well as deeper blacks and brighter whites. Another key feature of the Samsung Galaxy A-series is its camera system. Many A-series phones feature multiple cameras on the rear of the phone, including a wide-angle lens, a telephoto lens, and a depth sensor. This allows you to take a variety of different photos and videos, from wide-angle landscapes to up-close portraits. Many A-series phones also feature Samsung's Scene Optimizer, which automatically adjusts the camera settings based on the scene you're shooting, resulting in better photos and videos with less effort. Under the hood, many Samsung Galaxy A-series phones feature powerful processors and plenty of RAM, making them great for multitasking and running demanding apps and games. Many A-series phones also feature large batteries that provide all-day battery life, so you can use your phone without worrying about running out of juice. In terms of software, Samsung Galaxy A-series phones typically run the latest version of Android, with Samsung's own One UI skin on top. This provides a clean, easy-to-use interface that's packed with features and customization options. Many A-series phones also feature Samsung's Knox security platform, which provides robust security features to help keep your phone and data safe. Overall, the Samsung Galaxy A-series is a great choice for anyone looking for a high-quality smartphone at a more affordable price point. With large, high-quality displays, powerful processors, impressive camera systems, and all-day battery life, these phones offer excellent value for money and are well worth considering. Whether you're looking for a phone for work, play, or both, the Samsung Galaxy A-series has something to offer. With a range of different models to choose from, you're sure to find a phone that meets your needs and budget.
