Design and Screen

For the S20 FE, Samsung has maintained a premium 120Hz display, providing incredibly smooth scrolling. It also features a 240Hz sampling rate, which makes games incredibly responsive. I find it strange that Samsung chose not to include this capability in the Note 20. The FE still has an OLED display with a small cutout for the front camera at the top, but its maximum resolution is FHD+ rather than WQHD+ like the Galaxy S20. This modification seems OK to me because you couldn't mix 120hz and the higher resolution anyway. The screen isn't quite as color correct as the S20's, and apps like Netflix don't support HDR 10, but these differences could be difficult to notice until you put the two phones side by side. This screen is still really excellent and has enough brightness to withstand a bright day. Instead of a physical button like the Pixel 5, this device has an in-display fingerprint scanner. It differs slightly from the sensors Samsung often uses because it is optical rather than ultrasonic and hence requires light to operate. When you push in, you'll see a bright glow surrounding your finger, which can be a little annoying if you're trying to unlock in the middle of the night in a pitch-black space. Even so, it's quick and responsive, and if you'd like, face unlock is available. At 6.5-inches, the FE sits between the smaller S20 and the larger S20 Plus. For me, it feels like the perfect size and I really appreciate the flat display which is far superior for gaming than a curved panel. The S20 FE replaces the glass back with a durable plastic one, similar to the Galaxy Note 20. Even on a more inexpensive phone like this, I don't dislike the plastic feel, and I particularly appreciate the frosted texture, which is less likely to attract fingerprints than glass - always a good touch. The sides are made of aluminum for a strong frame, and the front is still made of Gorilla Glass.
